SJR55,1,2 Relating to: honoring Caron Butler on his return to his home state of Wisconsin to play for the Milwaukee Bucks.

SJR55,1,4 Whereas, Caron Butler is a National Basketball Association champion and two-time NBA All-Star; and

SJR55,1,6 Whereas, Caron Butler was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, and attended Racine Park High School; and

SJR55,1,9 Whereas, Caron Butler spent substantial time at both Racine's Bray Center and the John Bryant Community Center in his youth, playing AAU basketball for the Bray Center team; and

SJR55,1,11 Whereas, Caron Butler was successful enough in his time at Racine Park High School to have his uniform number retired; and

SJR55,1,13 Whereas, Caron Butler earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Connecticut; and

SJR55,2,3 Whereas, Caron Butler was selected tenth overall in the 2002 NBA draft, and has enjoyed a fantastic career, averaging over 15 points and five rebounds a game over his 11 professional seasons for five NBA teams; and

SJR55,2,6 Whereas, Caron Butler has been an enthusiastic and charitable member of his community throughout his NBA career, and has returned to Racine every off-season to perform a variety of community and charitable activities; and

SJR55,2,10 Whereas, Caron Butler's numerous charitable contributions to Racine and Wisconsin include distributing bicycles and bicycle helmets to youths, hosting Caron Butler's Summer Homecoming every summer in Racine, and sponsoring the Cops 'N Kids Legacy Project in Racine; and

SJR55,2,13 Whereas, Caron Butler's community involvement in Racine and Wisconsin is so significant that the city of Racine honored him with Caron Butler Day on June 8, 2007; and

SJR55,2,16 Whereas, Caron Butler was recently traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, and will now continue his outstanding career playing for his home-state team; now, therefore, be it

SJR55,2,20 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature congratulates Caron Butler on his Wisconsin homecoming and his NBA career thus far, commends his numerous charitable contributions to his community, and wishes him and the Milwaukee Bucks success this upcoming season and beyond.
