SJR89,1,32 Whereas, Tom Harden is a native of Middletown, Ohio, who apprenticed as a
3skilled tradesman in his hometown's steel mill before becoming a teacher; and
SJR89,1,54 Whereas, Tom became the fifth chancellor in the 40-year history of the
5University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on June 1, 2009; and
SJR89,1,106 Whereas, Tom's career has spanned 35 years in higher education, as prior to
7serving at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay he spent nine years as president
8of Clayton State University, was dean of the college of technology at Eastern
9Michigan University, was chairman of the department of technology at Northern
10Kentucky University, and taught in both college and K-12 classrooms; and
SJR89,1,1511 Whereas, during Tom's tenure, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has
12seen a series of record graduating classes, a surge in enrollment of returning adult
13students, an increase in the number of students of color, development of new master's
14degrees in nursing and sustainability, and the continued expansion of cooperative
15agreements with area technical colleges; and

1Whereas, Tom plans to transition in August 2014 from the chancellorship at the
2University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to the teaching faculty of the Professional
3Program in Education in order to spend more time with his family, including his 11
4grandchildren; and
SJR89,2,75 Whereas, Tom and his wife, Cathy, have been very active community members
6in the city of Green Bay as well as the university, and they will continue to stay
7involved; now, therefore, be it
SJR89,2,10 8Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature do hereby honor Tom Harden for his many years of service and
10wish him great success in his future endeavors.
