SJR9,1,1 1Relating to: Turner syndrome awareness month.
SJR9,1,32 Whereas, Turner syndrome is a noninheritable chromosomal disorder that
3affects one in 2,500 live female births; and
SJR9,1,54 Whereas, earlier diagnosis will help these girls and women get a complete
5cardiac screening; and
SJR9,1,76 Whereas, risk for acute aortic dissection is increased by more than a
7hundredfold in young and middle-aged women with Turner syndrome; and
SJR9,1,98 Whereas, early diagnosis facilitates prevention or remediation of growth
9failure, hearing problems, and learning difficulties; and
SJR9,1,1210 Whereas, individuals with Turner syndrome have an increased risk of
11nonverbal learning disorder, which can cause problems in math, visual-spatial
12skills, executive-function skills, and job retention; and
SJR9,1,1413 Whereas, a disproportionately small amount of funding is available for Turner
14syndrome research and support; and

1Whereas, with the help of medical specialists and a good social support system,
2a woman with Turner syndrome can live a happy, healthy life; and
SJR9,2,53 Whereas, the establishment of Turner syndrome awareness month will provide
4the opportunity to share experience and information and raise public awareness
5about Turner syndrome; now, therefore, be it
SJR9,2,10 6Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
7proclaims February 2013 to be Turner syndrome awareness month and encourages
8all residents to increase their awareness of and education about Turner syndrome,
9and services for those with Turner syndrome, which each year affects hundreds of
10female babies in Wisconsin; and, be it further
SJR9,2,12 11Resolved, That the chief clerk of the senate shall transmit copies of this
12resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
