SR8,1,1 1Relating to: proclaiming distracted driving awareness day.
SR8,1,52 Whereas, April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is
3dedicated to discouraging the use of cell phones while driving, recognizing that
4hands-free devices offer no safety benefit, and understanding the dangers of
5cognitive distraction while driving; and
SR8,1,76 Whereas, studies show that drivers talking on cell phones, whether or not using
7hands-free devices, are four times more likely to be involved in car accidents; and
SR8,1,98 Whereas, the National Safety Council estimates that drivers using cell phones
9cause 25 percent of car accidents in the United States; and
SR8,1,1110 Whereas, drivers talking on cell phones can miss up to 50 percent of the driving
11environment; and
SR8,1,1412 Whereas, sending or receiving a text message takes a driver's eyes from the
13road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent—at 55 miles per hour—of driving
14the length of a football field without watching the road; and
