1An Act to amend 118.045 (1); and
to create 118.045 (4) of the statutes;

2to: the commencement of fall classes in public schools.

This bill creates an exception to the general prohibition against a public school
beginning the school term before September 1. The exception is for a school board
of a school district in which more than 20 percent of the high school students took at
least one advanced placement exam.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

(4) (a) In this subsection, "advanced placement participation rate"
8means the percentage of pupils in grades 9 to 12 in a school district who took at least
1one advanced placement program examination during the most recent school year
2for which certified data is available from the department.

(b) A school board may commence the school term before September 1 in a
4school year if, on December 31 of the immediately preceding school year, the school
5district's advanced placement participation rate is more than 20 percent.
