AB788,1,2 An Act relating to: funding for dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers and making an appropriation.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

This bill increases funding to the Department of Health Services for fiscal year 2016-17 to authorize four additional full-time equivalent positions for the department for dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers in counties with a population under 150,000. The bill requires the department to maintain existing staffing levels for dementia care specialists, plus the new positions authorized under this bill. The bill also increases funding to the department for fiscal year 2016-17 to authorize one additional full-time equivalent position for the department for training of dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers, including educating employers about issues related to dementia in their employees and family members of employees. Under the bill, the department is required to submit a report to the joint committee on finance by July 1, 2017, regarding activities related to this employer education training position.

AB788,1 Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.

AB788,2,4 (1) In fiscal years beginning after fiscal year 2016-17, the department of health services shall maintain the number of FTE positions authorized for dementia care specialists existing as of fiscal year 2015-2016, plus the additional FTE positions authorized under Section 2 of this act.

AB788,2,10 (2) By July 1, 2017, the department of health services shall submit to the members of the joint committee on finance a report on the FTE position authorized for fiscal year 2016-17 for the training of dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers, including educating employers about issues related to dementia in their employees and family members of employees. The report shall include information about staff and training activities.

AB788,2,17 (1) In the schedule under section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of health services under section 20.435 (7) (b) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 2015, the dollar amount for fiscal year 2016-17 is increased by $372,000 to increase the authorized FTE positions for the department by 4.0 GPR positions on July 1, 2016, for dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers in counties with a population under 150,000.

AB788,2,24 (2) In the schedule under section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of health services under section 20.435 (7) (b) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 2015, the dollar amount for fiscal year 2016-17 is increased by $93,000 to increase the authorized FTE positions for the department by 1.0 GPR position on July 1, 2016, for the training of dementia care specialists in aging and disability resource centers, including educating employers about issues related to dementia in their employees and family members of employees.
