AJR50,1,1 Relating to: proclaiming Austrian-American Day.

AJR50,1,3 Whereas, the Austrian-American Council of the United States celebrated the first official Austrian-American Day on September 26, 1997; and

AJR50,1,6 Whereas, on September 26, 1945, a conference was convened in Vienna between the Allies and the representatives of the nine Austrian Federal States, during which, under difficult circumstances, a treaty was worked out; and

AJR50,1,8 Whereas, this treaty saved Austria from the fate of other Soviet-occupied European territories, namely, being divided between East and West; and

AJR50,1,11 Whereas, the conference laid the foundation for the recognition by the United States and the Allied Forces of the first provisional Austrian postwar government; and

AJR50,1,14 Whereas, this year will commemorate the 68th anniversary of the foresighted, compassionate, and conciliatory speech that General George Marshall gave at Harvard in 1947; and

AJR50,2,3 Whereas, General Marshall initiated history's most generous aid program under the European Recovery Plan, which history today remembers simply as "The Marshall Plan"; and

AJR50,2,7 Whereas, Austrians have never forgotten the generosity of the American people, their postwar reconstruction aid, the care packages, and the sincere feeling of friendship that developed, nurtured by shared interests and concerns; now, therefore, be it

AJR50,2,10 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature proclaims September 26, 2015, Austrian-American Day and commends this observance to the citizens of the state.
