AJR71,1,1 Relating to: the life and service of Marty Beil.

AJR71,1,3 Whereas, Marty Beil was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Martin and Mary Beil and died at his home Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the age of 68; and

AJR71,1,5 Whereas, Marty Beil believed in easing the plight of working families as a life mission; and

AJR71,1,7 Whereas, Marty Beil graduated from Divine Word Missionary Seminary and obtained a master's degree from Marquette University; and

AJR71,1,9 Whereas, following his graduate studies in 1969, Marty Beil began work for the Department of Corrections as a probation and parole agent; and

AJR71,1,12 Whereas, Marty Beil became active in his local union, proudly serving his peers first as bargaining representative, and later as the president of the Wisconsin State Employees Union; and

AJR71,1,15 Whereas, Marty Beil became the executive director for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFSCME Council 24, until his retirement on June 30 of this year; and

AJR71,2,3 Whereas, Marty Beil was a tough negotiator for the members he so proudly represented, but always stepped up to help the state of Wisconsin in difficult financial times; and

AJR71,2,5 Whereas, Marty Beil dedicated his life to the service of others, making at times deep personal sacrifices in service to his brothers and sisters; and

AJR71,2,11 Whereas, Marty Beil and his wife of over 30 years, Sue Wigdahl Beil, have shared all of life's twists and turns, always there for one another and their four children and their families, Natalie and Derrick, Audra and Mike, Nick and Stefanie, and Jessica and Nate, and three granddaughters, Trinity, Paige, and Scarlette and many other family, friends, and of course his brothers and sisters in labor; now, therefore, be it

AJR71,2,16 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the legislature commend the devoted public service and service to public employees that Marty Beil contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends. The assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to the family of Marty Beil and AFSCME Council 24.
