AJR91,1,53 Whereas, Madison's "Platinum Bicycling Committee" was formed in 2006 and
4has been working on improving Madison's bicycle infrastructure to reach Platinum
5status; and
AJR91,1,96 Whereas, the partnership between the city of Madison, cycling enthusiasts,
7Trek, and Madison B-Cycle led to improvements in bike lanes and safety,
8transforming Madison into a cycling city where more than 5 percent of commuters
9travel by bicycle; and
AJR91,1,1210 Whereas, Madison has nearly 75 miles of off-street bicycle paths, 120 miles of
11on-street bikeways, designated safety zones at intersections, and bike parking at the
12majority of businesses and institutions; and
AJR91,1,1413 Whereas, Madison is one of only five cities in the United States to reach
14Platinum status, which is the highest rank achieved by any American city; and

1Whereas, Madison is the first city in the Midwest and first city east of the
2Mississippi to achieve Platinum status as a Bicycle Friendly Community; and
AJR91,2,63 Whereas, Madison is joined by Appleton, Eau Claire, Fitchburg, Menomonie,
4Middleton, Milwaukee, Monona, Onalaska, River Falls, Sheboygan County,
5Shorewood, Stevens Point, Sturgeon Bay, and Wausau on the League's Bicycle
6Friendly Communities list; and
AJR91,2,87 Whereas, Wisconsin had more cities added or moving up on the list than any
8other state; and
AJR91,2,109 Whereas, the Bicycle Friendly Community status reflects environmental
10benefits with positive effects on transportation and citizen health; and
AJR91,2,1211 Whereas, we appreciate the work that has been invested in the city of Madison
12as a Bicycle Friendly Community; now, therefore, be it
AJR91,2,15 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
14legislature congratulates the city of Madison on achieving Platinum status as a
15Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
