SJR112,1,43 Whereas, in any given year, more than 30 million pet animals die from abuse
4and neglect; and
SJR112,1,65 Whereas, pet ownership has become engrained in American culture, nearly
679.7 million households in the United States own at least one pet; and
SJR112,1,87 Whereas, Americans have 163.6 million cats and dogs as companions in their
8homes; and
SJR112,1,109 Whereas, these animals depend on their owners to keep them safe and out of
10harm's way; and
SJR112,1,1211 Whereas, everyday risks threaten the livelihood of these pets including
12accidental drowning, poisoning, and electrocution; and
SJR112,1,1413 Whereas, tragic accidents can occur if owners are not aware of these everyday
14risks; and

1Whereas, the loss of an animal companion can devastate a family; both children
2and adults can be equally hurt from their loss; and
SJR112,2,43 Whereas, pets in healthy and secure homes reduce the burden facing
4overcrowded animal shelters; and
SJR112,2,65 Whereas, fostering safe and protected homes for animals can better human
6lives and save Wisconsin taxpayer dollars; now, therefore, be it
SJR112,2,9 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
8hereby proclaims October 2016 National Animal Safety and Protection Month in
9Wisconsin.
