SJR59,1,43 Whereas, the USS Milwaukee (LCS-5) is a Freedom-class littoral combat ship
4of the United States Navy; and
SJR59,1,75 Whereas, a littoral combat ship is a class of relatively small surface vessels
6intended for operations in the littoral zone (close to shore) by the United States Navy;

SJR59,1,98 Whereas, her keel was laid in October 27, 2011, by Marinette Marine
9Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin; and
SJR59,1,1110 Whereas, her diesel engines were manufactured at Fairbanks Morse Engine
11company in Beloit, Wisconsin; and
SJR59,1,1312 Whereas, the USS Milwaukee was launched in December of 2013, and is
13currently undergoing sea trials; and
SJR59,1,1514 Whereas, she will be the 5th ship to be named by the United States Navy for
15the City of Milwaukee; and

1Whereas, the United States Navy has selected Saturday, November 21, 2015,
2as the date of the commission of the USS Milwaukee in Veterans Park on the
3Milwaukee lakefront; now, therefore, be it
SJR59,2,7 4Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
5Wisconsin legislature do congratulate the United States Navy on the commissioning
6of the USS Milwaukee, and wish "Godspeed" to both her and those who serve upon
7her.
