SJR83,1,53 Whereas, American students miss 51 million hours of school every year to
4attend to oral health, so it is important to reduce missed instruction time by
5promoting effective dental health; and
SJR83,1,86 Whereas, since virtually all American adults have tooth decay and nearly a
7quarter have untreated cavities, dental health is an issue that affects Americans of
8all ages and demographics; and
SJR83,1,119 Whereas, because safe oral health practices such as tooth brushing, flossing,
10and use of mouthwash are both effective and easy to teach, awareness plays a huge
11role in the practice of good oral hygiene; and
SJR83,1,1412 Whereas, there are many long term effects of poor oral hygiene, so it is
13important to promote dental health for young children and students to encourage
14good habits and a lifetime of disease-free teeth; and

1Whereas, since teachers, health care providers, and parents can all influence
2oral health practices, the American Dental Association has supported making
3February a month-long, national health observance to encourage beneficial dental
4health practices; and
SJR83,2,75 Whereas, the legislature has an opportunity to join the national campaign to
6"defeat Monster Mouth" and bring awareness to the importance of good dental
7health; now, therefore, be it
SJR83,2,10 8Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
9hereby proclaims February 2016 as Children's Dental Health Awareness Month in
10Wisconsin.
