SJR94,1,43 Whereas, March is recognized across the nation as Brain Injury Awareness
4Month; and
SJR94,1,65 Whereas, each year, nearly 3.5 million children and adults sustain an acquired
6brain injury, with more cases going unreported or unnoticed; and
SJR94,1,87 Whereas, causes of an acquired brain injury include toxic exposure, trauma,
8tumor, stroke, electric shock, lightning strike, and near drowning; and
SJR94,1,109 Whereas, 2.5 million Americans annually suffer from a traumatic brain injury
10caused by an impact from an external force; and
SJR94,1,1311 Whereas, 2.2 million people are treated for traumatic brain injuries in a
12hospital, and around 50,000 people will ultimately die from these injuries each year;
13and
SJR94,1,1514 Whereas, every 13 seconds, someone in the United States sustains a traumatic
15brain injury from a fall, assault, or accident; and

1Whereas, because 12 million Americans live with the impact of a brain injury,
2it is important to recognize the issues facing these individuals; and
SJR94,2,43 Whereas, there are many victims who are affected by the results of a sustained
4brain injury, including family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors; and
SJR94,2,75 Whereas, Brain Injury Awareness Month provides an excellent opportunity for
6citizens to learn more about the resources available to treat and recover from brain
7injuries; now, therefore, be it
SJR94,2,9 8Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the month of March
92016 is recognized as Brain Injury Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
