2015 Senate RESOLUTION 11

SR11,1,1 Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Rosemary Hinkfuss.

SR11,1,3 Whereas, Rosemary T. Hinkfuss was born on September 30, 1931, in Lima, Ohio, and died on March 2, 2016; and

SR11,1,6 Whereas, Rosemary graduated from St. John's High School before earning a bachelor's degree in 1954 from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and

SR11,1,9 Whereas, Rosemary met her future husband, Bill, when he came to Cardinal Stritch with a delegation from St. Norbert College and they were married on September 24, 1957, at St. John Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio; and

SR11,1,11 Whereas, following Bill's graduation from Georgetown Law School, they relocated to Green Bay, Wisconsin; and

SR11,1,14 Whereas, along with raising six children, Rosemary also became involved in politics and helped to organize a reception in Green Bay for presidential candidate John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline in 1960; and

SR11,2,3 Whereas, Rosemary then volunteered for several other candidates before running her own successful campaign in 1974 for the Green Bay City Council and Brown County Board of Supervisors, where she served until 1982; and

SR11,2,5 Whereas, Rosemary reentered the political arena in 1988 by winning the seat for the 88th Assembly District, which she held until 1994; and

SR11,2,9 Whereas, in addition to holding political office, Rosemary served on a number of boards and in 1980 was the first female named to the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors, serving in that role until 2001, when she became a Director Emeritus; and

SR11,2,13 Whereas, in addition to public service, Rosemary's other passions were reading and the card game bridge, which she enjoyed playing with family and friends and in tournaments around the country, and her skill allowed her to achieve the status of Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League; and

SR11,2,16 Whereas, Rosemary donated much of her time to helping others, but her main focus was always on her family, and she was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and wife; and

SR11,2,20 Whereas, Rosemary positively affected the lives of countless individuals throughout her many years of service to her community, and in 2014 the Brown County Democratic Party honored her with their Lifetime Achievement Award; now, therefore, be it

SR11,2,24 Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate, on the motion of Senator Dave Hansen, do hereby celebrate the remarkable life of Rosemary T. Hinkfuss and extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends; and, be it further

SR11,3,2 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Rosemary's husband, Bill, and to each of her children.
