SR4,1,1 1Relating to: commending Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
SR4,1,52 Whereas, on January 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University, a group
3of 22 women who were social justice advocates manifested the vision of Delta Sigma
4Theta Sorority, Inc., and envisioned a world in which women could define, champion,
5and lead in the effort to address social issues of the day; and
SR4,1,106 Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., while participating in the
7monumental Woman Suffrage Parade of 1913 in Washington, D.C., fought and won
8its initial battle not to walk at the back of the march, the section that had been
9reserved for Negro supporters, and understood that the sorority would be called to
10fight for injustice on many fronts; and
SR4,1,1411 Whereas, using its collective strength to promote academic excellence, Delta
12Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., gave rise to an expansive network of organizational
13chapters, in every corner of the country, touching the shores of many countries
14abroad, to further its mission of service; and

1Whereas, in 1977, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., empowered 22 visionary
2women in Madison, Wisconsin, to use their skills to charter the Madison Alumnae
3Chapter in hopes of impacting the political, educational, and social aspects of the
4community. The Madison Alumnae Chapter has served Madison and Wisconsin
5residents for nearly 40 years; now, therefore, be it
SR4,2,9 6Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin Senate, on the
7motion of Senator Lena C. Taylor, do commend the Madison Alumnae Chapter of
8Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of Delta Day at the capitol, honoring
9its rich past and working in faith and belief towards the future.
