Whereas, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks took home the
5National Basketball Association's 2018-19 Most Valuable Player Award after
6leading the Bucks to a historic season and deep run in the playoffs; and

Whereas, Giannis joins three other Wisconsin professional athletes from all
8three of our state's major professional sports teams who have earned their league's
9highest honor in this decade, including Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun of the
10Milwaukee Brewers in the 2018 and 2011 seasons, respectively, and Aaron Rodgers
11of the Green Bay Packers in the 2014 and 2011 seasons; and

Whereas, these four athletes, through excellence in their sports, have become
13household names not only in Wisconsin, but for sports fans throughout the nation;

2generation of Wisconsin athletes performing at the top of their game, joining a
3history of athletes earning their league's highest honor as a member of a Wisconsin
4professional sports team, including MLB MVPs Hank Aaron, Rollie Fingers, and
5Robin Yount, NBA MVP Kareem Adbul-Jabbar, and NFL MVPs Don Hutson, Paul
6Hornung, Jim Taylor, Bart Starr, and Brett Favre; and

Whereas, the three most recent MVP athletes in Wisconsin, Rodgers, Yelich,
8and Giannis, all celebrate their birthdays in the first week of December on the 2nd,

Whereas, Wisconsin's tradition of sports excellence and place in sports history
11is illustrated through 22 MVP awards between the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee
12Braves, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers, all given to athletes who lead
13their leagues in the box scores week after week, were leaders in their locker rooms,
14and found new ways to give back to their communities off the court or field; now,

assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
17Legislature celebrates Wisconsin's history of sports excellence through recognizing
18the three most recent MVPs on the occasion of their birthdays by proclaiming
19December 1 to December 7, 2019, as MVP Week in Wisconsin and calling for a
20celebration of Wisconsin professional sports teams.
