Whereas, World Mental Health Day is observed by the World Health
3Organization on October 10; and

Whereas, the objective of this day is to raise awareness for people all around the
5world who are affected by mental health issues; and

Whereas, one in five U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year and one
7in six U.S. youth experiences a mental health disorder each year; and

Whereas, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10 to
934 and the tenth leading cause of death in the United States; and

Whereas, only 43 percent of U.S. adults with a mental illness received
11treatment in 2018; and

Whereas, people with depression have a 40 percent higher risk of developing
13cardiovascular and metabolic diseases than the general population, and caregivers
14of adults with a mental health issue spend an average of 32 hours per week providing
15unpaid care; and
