SB504,1,2 1An Act to create 20.435 (5) (ef) and 51.72 of the statutes; relating to: grants
2for suicide prevention programming and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Health Services to award grants to
organizations or coalitions of organizations, including cities, villages, towns, and
counties, for suicide prevention programming. A grant recipient must contribute
matching funds or in-kind services having a value equal to at least 20 percent of the
grant amount.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB504,1 3Section 1 . 20.005 (3) (schedule) of the statutes: at the appropriate place, insert

SB504,2 1Section 2 . 20.435 (5) (ef) of the statutes is created to read:
SB504,2,32 20.435 (5) (ef) Suicide prevention programming grants. Biennially, the
3amounts in the schedule for suicide prevention programming grants under s. 51.72.
SB504,3 4Section 3 . 51.72 of the statutes is created to read:
SB504,2,8 551.72 Suicide prevention programming grants. (1) From the
6appropriation under s. 20.435 (5) (ef), the department shall award grants to
7organizations or coalitions of organizations, which may include a city, village, town,
8or county, for suicide prevention programming.
SB504,2,11 9(2) The department may not award a grant under sub. (1) unless the recipient
10contributes matching funds or in-kind services having a value equal to at least 20
11percent of the grant.
SB504,2,13 12(3) The department may not award a grant to a recipient under sub. (1) for an
13amount that exceeds $10,000 in a particular fiscal year.
