AB1178,1,2 1An Act to amend 341.15 (3) (intro.) of the statutes; relating to: penalties for
2improper display of motor vehicle registration plates and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, with certain exceptions, a registration plate must be placed
at the front and the back of a motor vehicle. Plates must be firmly affixed, displayed
horizontally and conspicuously, and maintained so as to be legible and unobstructed.
A person who operates a motor vehicle with a plate that violates any of these
requirements may be required to forfeit not more than $200. Under the bill, the
maximum forfeiture remains not more than $200 for a first offense, but increases to
not more than $400 for a second or subsequent offense.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

5$200 for a first offense or not more than $400 for a second or subsequent offense:

1(1) This act first applies to violations committed on the effective date of this
2subsection, but does not preclude the counting of other convictions as prior
3convictions for purposes of sentencing by a court.
