SJR104,1,42 Whereas, on December 20, 2021, Stephen M. Smith, a firefighter and loving
3husband, father, and grandfather, passed away due to complications from
4COVID-19 contracted in the line of duty; and
SJR104,1,65 Whereas, Stephen was born in Appleton to David P. and Marianne Smith on
6July 13, 1967; and
SJR104,1,87 Whereas, Stephen served as a firefighter for the Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire
8Department for 28 years; and
SJR104,1,109 Whereas, Stephen also volunteered for Walleyes for Tomorrow and was an
10usher at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna; and
SJR104,1,1211 Whereas, Stephen took great pride in his ability to help others and had a
12passion for volunteering; and
SJR104,1,1513 Whereas, in his free time, Stephen was an avid hunter and fisherman who won
14many trophies but valued the stories and friendships made during his outdoor
15activities the most; and

1Whereas, Stephen was the cherished husband of Mary Bloy Smith, father of
2Brianna, Samantha, Ashley, and Nicole, and treasured friend to many; and
SJR104,2,43 Whereas, Stephen's family described him as “a family man with all the love in
4the world to give”; and
SJR104,2,65 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin are grateful for Stephen's service and
6sacrifice; now, therefore, be it
SJR104,2,10 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin Legislature join in honoring the remarkable life and service of Firefighter
9Stephen M. Smith and extend their deepest sympathies to Stephen's family, friends,
10and colleagues; and, be it further
SJR104,2,12 11Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to
12Stephen's family.
