SJR50,1,53 Whereas, Sunshine Week was launched in 2005 by the American Society of
4News Editors — now News Leaders Association — and has grown into an enduring
5initiative to promote open government; and
SJR50,1,86 Whereas, throughout Sunshine Week, hundreds of media organizations, civic
7groups, libraries, nonprofits, schools, and other participants engage in public
8discussion on the importance of open government through different mediums; and
SJR50,1,109 Whereas we must honor Wisconsin's progressive history that reflects the values
10put forward during Sunshine Week; and
SJR50,1,1311 Whereas open government is good government, and legislators must
12acknowledge that their role as public servants requires a willingness to share the
13work they do with the public; and

1Whereas, the issues discussed during Sunshine Week are not only a celebration
2of open government, but also a recognition of the freedom of the press described in
3the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution; now, therefore, be it
SJR50,2,6 4Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
5Legislature declares March 14 to 20 as Sunshine Week in Wisconsin and across the
6country.
