SJR83,1,43 Whereas, Edward Joseph “Ed” Lump was born on July 25, 1942 in Chicago
4Illinois, the oldest of Ruth and Edward Lump's four sons; and
SJR83,1,65 Whereas, Ed Lump earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from
6the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1964; and
SJR83,1,87 Whereas, Ed Lump cofounded the Brat und Brau restaurants and the EJ Lump
8& Co. Foodservice Consulting Firm; and
SJR83,1,129 Whereas, after years of success in the restaurant business, Ed Lump became
10President and CEO of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) and provided
11outstanding leadership for 36 years in this role before retiring on March 31, 2018;
12and
SJR83,1,1513 Whereas, Ed Lump brought restaurant industry experience, business acumen,
14political savvy, strong negotiating skills, integrity, and a talent for storytelling to his
15job; and

1Whereas, Ed Lump provided valuable services for WRA members, such as
2model employee handbooks for restaurant owners, educational programs, and the
3WRA Education Foundation and scholarship program; and
SJR83,2,44 Whereas, WRA membership increased fifteenfold under Ed's guidance; and
SJR83,2,65 Whereas, Ed Lump served as past chair of the WRA board of directors and as
6a board member for 10 years; and
SJR83,2,97 Whereas, Ed Lump served with dedication and commitment on the
8Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council as the designated representative of
9Wisconsin's small business community; and
SJR83,2,1210 Whereas, Ed Lump, throughout his long career, championed legislation to
11protect the restaurant industry, including a statewide smoking ban and the
12establishment of the Department of Tourism; and
SJR83,2,1413 Whereas, Ed Lump was an eloquent and passionate voice for restaurants across
14the state; and
SJR83,2,1615 Whereas, Ed Lump died at the age of 79 on October 11, 2021, in Oconomowoc,
16Wisconsin; and
SJR83,2,1917 Whereas, Ed's love for his family, his job, and the restaurant, hospitality, and
18tourism industries inspired tremendous respect and established a remarkable
19legacy; now, therefore, be it

21Wisconsin Legislature honor the life, career, and accomplishments of Ed Lump.
