AJR83,1,2 1Relating to: supporting the people of Iran in their quest for a democratic
2government.
AJR83,1,53 Whereas, the people of Iran have bravely protested for their fundamental rights
4and freedoms for years, and the Iranian regime has suppressed such protests with
5repressive forces, arresting thousands and killing hundreds; and
AJR83,1,96 Whereas, since September 2022, protests have erupted in at least 100 cities
7across Iran in response to the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian
8woman who was arrested by morality police for a violation of Iran's mandatory dress
9code; and
AJR83,1,1210 Whereas, these protests are rooted in more than four decades of organized
11resistance against the Iranian dictatorship and are led by women who have endured
12torture, sexual and gender-based violence, and death; and
AJR83,2,213 Whereas, for years, the Iranian regime has also arbitrarily and brutally
14suppressed ethnic and religious minorities—including Iranian Kurds, Baluchis,

1Arabs, Christians, Jews, Baha'is, Zoroastrians, and Sunni Muslims— depriving
2them of their fundamental human rights, and in many cases executing them; and
AJR83,2,53 Whereas, senior Iranian government, military, judicial, and security officials
4have for decades ordered and committed egregious human rights violations and acts
5of terror against Iranian citizens; and
AJR83,2,106 Whereas, the Iranian people are now rejecting monarchic dictatorship and
7religious tyranny, and demanding social freedom and political change, including the
8universal right to vote, free elections, a market economy, a foreign policy based on
9peaceful coexistence, and gender, religious, and ethnic equality as specified in the
10opposition leader Maryam Rajavi's 10-point plan for the future of Iran; and
AJR83,2,1311 Whereas, the similarity in slogans and tactics used by protestors nationwide
12reflect the overarching demands of the Iranian people and point to the organized
13nature of the protests; and
AJR83,2,1514 Whereas, Wisconsinites support the Iranian people's desire for a democratic,
15secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran; now, therefore, be it
AJR83,2,20 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
17Legislature condemns past and present violations of human rights and
18state-sponsored terrorism by the Iranian government and stands in solidarity with
19the people of Iran in their quest for a democratic and secular republic government
20that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.
