Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Health Services to enter into any
necessary agreements with the federal Department of Health and Human Services
and neighboring states to join and participate as an active member in the Public
Assistance Reporting Information System. The Public Assistance Reporting
Information System is a federal database used to check whether public assistance
recipients may be receiving duplicate benefits in more than one state. The bill also
requires DHS to identify any veterans, dependents of veterans, and survivors
receiving benefits under the Medical Assistance program that are eligible for federal
military-related health care benefits and encourage those individuals to apply for
the federal benefits for which they are eligible.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
