SB955,1,3 1An Act to amend 20.455 (2) (gr) and 175.60 (7) (c) of the statutes; relating to:
2position authorizations in the Office of School Safety and making an
3appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, there is the Office of School Safety in the Department of
Justice. This bill increases the number of positions for the office by 14.2 project
positions starting January 1, 2025, and ending September 30, 2025. The bill
provides funding for the positions from the fees that DOJ collects for issuing licenses
to carry concealed weapons.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB955,1 4Section 1. 20.455 (2) (gr) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB955,2,25 20.455 (2) (gr) Handgun purchaser record check; checks for licenses or
6certifications to carry concealed weapons.
All moneys received as fee payments under

1ss. 175.35 (2i), 175.49 (5m), and 175.60 (7) (c) and (d), (13), and (15) (b) 4. a. and b.
2to provide services under ss. 165.28, 175.35, 175.49, and 175.60.
SB955,2 3Section 2. 175.60 (7) (c) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB955,2,74 175.60 (7) (c) A license fee in an amount, as determined by the department by
5rule, that is equal to the cost of issuing the license but does not exceed $37. The
6department shall determine the costs of issuing a license by using a 5-year planning
7period.
SB955,3 8Section 3 . Nonstatutory provisions.
SB955,2,139 (1) Project positions for the office of school safety. The authorized FTE
10positions for the department of justice are increased by 14.2 project positions, to be
11funded from the appropriation under s. 20.455 (2) (gr), for the purpose of supporting
12and enhancing school safety initiatives for the period beginning on January 1, 2025,
13and ending on September 30, 2025.
