Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that
4occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops beating; and

Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the United
6States with more than 356,000 people of all ages experiencing EMS-assessed
7out-of-hospital nontraumatic SCA each year; and

Whereas, approximately 90 percent of people who experience out-of-hospital
9cardiac arrest die, many because of lack of readily available lifesaving medical
10equipment; and

Whereas, bystanders intervention can double or triple survival rates when
12cardiopulmonary resuscitation and early defibrillation with an automated external
13defibrillator are immediately administered; and

Whereas, comprehensive educational initiatives are needed to increase
15awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and its associated treatments among health
1professionals and the general public, in turn facilitating early detection and proper
2treatment; and

senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
6Wisconsin Legislature proclaim the month of October 2023 as Sudden Cardiac Arrest
7Awareness Month to promote awareness and early detection.
