Although the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks is not against ATV use on Wisconsin DNR lands in general, it does not find ATVs to be an appropriate use for DNR State Park properties. Given that State Park properties are small, ATV use poses potential danger to users, creates unnecessary noise in serene areas, and does not meet the needs of general ATV users. Per DNR Manual Code 2527.9 (All-Terrain Vehicle Trails on Department Lands) FWSP supports the DNR position that “consideration for ATV use on Department lands should be part of a comprehensive property master planning process so that the location of ATV use can be considered with both existing and potential future uses of the property…Regardless of whether a master plan exists, an evaluation of the impacts on the resources, property users and public input are essential components of the process.” FWSP furthermore supports the exploration of a motorized state recreation area in Wisconsin.
