The Senate stood for the prayer which was offered by Rev. Jerry Hancock of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Madison
The Senate remained standing and Senator Kanavas led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
Pursuant to Senate Rule 11 (6), the committee on Senate Organization had unanimously voted to give Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Executive Governor of Kano State, Nigeria the privilege of the floor.
Upon introduction by Senator Coggs, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau was escorted by Senator Taylor and addressed the members from the rostrum.
