2relating to: carrying a weapon on a public mass transportation system and
3providing a penalty.

Current law prohibits a person from carrying a firearm in certain buildings
owned or leased by the state or a local government if properly posted. This bill allows
the state or a local government to post vehicles that are part of a public mass
transportation system. A person who carries a firearm on a posted vehicle is subject
to a Class B forfeiture, which is the same penalty as carrying a firearm into a building
that is posted by the state or a local government.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB258,1,85 943.13 (1m) (c) 4m. While carrying a firearm, enters or remains in any vehicle
6that is part of a public mass transportation system if the governmental unit that
7owns or operates the system has notified the actor not to enter or remain in the
8vehicle while carrying a firearm or with that type of firearm.

1Section 2. 943.13 (2) (bm) 2. d. of the statutes is created to read:
AB258,2,72 943.13 (2) (bm) 2. d. For the purposes of sub. (1m) (c) 4m., a governmental unit
3has notified an individual not to enter or remain in a vehicle while carrying a firearm
4or with a particular type of firearm if the governmental unit has posted a sign that
5is located in a prominent place in the vehicle to which the restriction applies and any
6individual entering or boarding the vehicle can be reasonably expected to see the
7sign.
