SB347,1,3 1An Act to renumber 175.60 (14) (am); and to create 175.60 (7) (f) and 175.60
2(14) (am) 2. of the statutes; relating to: proof of insurance for a license to carry
3a concealed weapon.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires that an individual who is applying for a license to carry a
concealed weapon submit, as part of his or her application, proof of general liability
insurance in the amount of at least $800,000 per firearm per occurrence of bodily
injury, death, or property damage that may arise out of the use of the applicant's
firearm. This bill also requires the Department of Justice to suspend a license if the
licensee no longer has such an insurance policy in force.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB347,1 4Section 1. 175.60 (7) (f) of the statutes is created to read:
SB347,2,25 175.60 (7) (f) Proof that he or she has in force a noncancelable policy of general
6liability insurance issued by an insurer authorized to do business in this state
7insuring the applicant in the amount of at least $800,000 per firearm owned per

1occurrence of bodily injury to or death of others or damage to the property of others
2that may arise out of the use of the applicant's firearm.
SB347,2 3Section 2. 175.60 (14) (am) of the statutes is renumbered 175.60 (14) (am) 1.
SB347,3 4Section 3. 175.60 (14) (am) 2. of the statutes is created to read:
SB347,2,115 175.60 (14) (am) 2. The department shall suspend a license issued under this
6section if the licensee no longer has in force a policy of general liability insurance
7described under sub. (7) (f). If the individual whose license was suspended provides
8proof of insurance described under sub. (7) (f), the department shall restore the
9license within 5 business days of notification if sub. (3) (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), or (g) does
10not apply to the individual and the suspended license would not have expired under
11sub. (15) (a) had it not been suspended.
SB347,4 12Section 4. Initial applicability.
SB347,2,1413 (1) This act first applies to an application for a license, or for a renewal of a
14license, submitted on the effective date of this subsection.
