AR29-ASA3,1,1 1Relating to: commending Shannon Faulkner.
AR29-ASA3,1,42 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner, refusing to surrender to adversity and rejection,
3attempted for 2 1/2 years to enroll in the Citadel, the South Carolina state military
4college; and
AR29-ASA3,1,75 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner's courageous enterprise was crowned with
6success when she was admitted as the first woman cadet in the 152-year history of
7the Citadel cadet corps; and
AR29-ASA3,1,108 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner left the Citadel in August 1995, when it became
9apparent that continuing the course of study posed serious risk to her physical
10health; and
AR29-ASA3,1,1511 Whereas, Shannon Faulkner's departure from the Citadel ended her quest to
12follow in the footsteps of Rebecca Marier, whose June 1995 graduation from the
13United States Military Academy made her the first woman to complete the course
14of study at West Point ranked number one in her cadet class, in the academy's 19
15years of accepting female members of the corps; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
2commend Shannon Faulkner for her commitment and persistence in gaining
3admission to the Citadel; salute her high aspirations in emulating those women who
4have completed the rigorous training and educational programs of U.S. military
5schools; express their sorrow at the untimely end of her Citadel career; and wish her
6the best in her future endeavors; and, be it further
AR29-ASA3,2,10 7Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution
8to Shannon Faulkner, the members of Wisconsin's congressional delegations, the
9U.S. Secretary of Defense, the speaker of the South Carolina General Assembly and
10the attorney general of South Carolina.
