ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 1, TO 1997 ASSEMBLY BILL 600

AB600-AA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

AB600-AA1,1,4 1. Page 1, line 14: after "adopted;" insert "the filing of a petition for adoption by a relative of a child by adoption; including relatives by adoption in the definition of "relative" in the children's code;".

AB600-AA1,1,5 2. Page 13, line 1: delete lines 1 and 2 and substitute:

AB600-AA1,1,6 " Section 1g. 48.02 (15) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB600-AA1,1,9 48.02 (15) "Relative" means a parent, grandparent, stepparent, brother, sister, first cousin, nephew, niece, uncle or aunt. This relationship may be by consanguinity or direct affinity shall be by blood, marriage or adoption.

AB600-AA1, s. 1m Section 1m. 48.38 (4) (d) of the statutes is renumbered 48.38 (4) (d) (intro.) and amended to read:".

AB600-AA1,1,12 3. Page 25, line 17: before that line insert:

AB600-AA1,1,13 " Section 15m. 48.90 (1) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB600-AA1,2,3 48.90 (1) (a) One of the petitioners is a relative of the child by blood or by adoption, excluding parents whose parental rights have been terminated and persons whose relationship to the child is derived through such parents.".

AB600-AA1,2,4 4. Page 35, line 22: after that line insert:

AB600-AA1,2,7 "(5m) Filing of adoption petitions. The treatment of section 48.90 (1) (a) of the statutes first applies to adoption petitions filed on the effective date of this subsection.".
