AB165-ASA1,1,2 1An Act to repeal and recreate 118.045 (3) of the statutes; relating to: the
2commencement of the school term in public schools.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB165-ASA1, s. 1 3Section 1. 118.045 (3) of the statutes is repealed and recreated to read:
AB165-ASA1,1,64 118.045 (3) A school board may commence the school term before September
51 in an odd-numbered year and in the succeeding even-numbered year if all of the
6following apply:
AB165-ASA1,1,87 (a) At the annual meeting held in a common or union high school district in the
8previous even-numbered year, a public hearing is held on the issue.
AB165-ASA1,1,119 (b) If the school district is not a common or union high school district, the school
10board holds a public hearing on the issue after May 14 and before October 1 in the
11previous even-numbered year.

1(c) Following the public hearing under par. (a) or (b), but before the employment
2relations commission receives a notice of the commencement of contract negotiations
3under s. 111.70 (4) (cm) 1. for the collective bargaining agreement whose term begins
4in the succeeding odd-numbered year, the school board adopts a resolution to that
5effect.

AB165-ASA1,2,87 (1) This act first applies to the commencement of the school term in the 2003-04
8school year.
