AB201-ASA2,1,3 1An Act to create 36.11 (47m) and 38.12 (12) of the statutes; relating to: giving
2veterans and members of the armed forces priority in registering for courses at
3the University of Wisconsin System and technical colleges.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This substitute amendment directs the Board of Regents of the University of
Wisconsin (UW) System and technical college district boards to ensure that students
who are veterans or members of the U.S. armed forces are given priority in
registering for courses at any UW campus or technical college.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB201-ASA2,1 4Section 1. 36.11 (47m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB201-ASA2,2,25 36.11 (47m) Service members; priority registration. (a) In this subsection,
6"service member" means a person who has served or is serving on active duty under
7honorable conditions in the U.S. armed forces, in forces incorporated as part of the

1U.S. armed forces, in the national guard, or in a reserve component of the U.S. armed
2forces.
AB201-ASA2,2,43 (b) The board shall ensure that a student who is a service member is given
4priority in registering for courses at any college campus or institution.
AB201-ASA2,2 5Section 2. 38.12 (12) of the statutes is created to read:
AB201-ASA2,2,76 38.12 (12) Service members; priority registration. (a) In this subsection,
7"service member" has the meaning given in s. 36.11 (47m) (a).
AB201-ASA2,2,98 (b) Each district board shall ensure that a student who is a service member is
9given priority in registering for courses at any technical college in the district.
AB201-ASA2,3 10Section 3. Initial applicability.
AB201-ASA2,2,1211 (1) This act first applies to registration for courses offered in the first semester
12or session beginning after the effective date of this subsection.
