1995 Assembly Joint Resolution 85
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Frank Remington.
Whereas, Frank Remington was born on February 10, 1922, in Schenectady, New York, and died on February 9, 1996, in Madison; and
Whereas, Mr. Remington served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and won the Distinguished Flying Cross; and
Whereas, he earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, finishing first in his law school class and serving as editor in chief of the Wisconsin Law Review; and
Whereas, he taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School for 46 years and attained national stature as an authority on criminal law and procedure, as evidenced by his many publications and his appointment to prestigious positions; and
Whereas, he worked on the committees that drafted the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and the American Law Institute's Model Penal Code and, for the American Bar Association, he directed a study of criminal justice administration and a project to develop standards for police officers; and
Whereas, his public service also benefited this state, because he helped revise the Wisconsin Criminal Code and served on many state committees; and
Whereas, in addition to his research and teaching, he served on the university's athletic board for many years, was the university's faculty representative to the Big Ten Conference and the faculty representative to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association; and
Whereas, for his accomplishments he received many awards, including the Distinguished University Achievement Award, the Wisconsin Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award and the Wisconsin Law Foundation Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend Frank Remington's many years of scholarly achievement, devoted public service and exemplification of the "Wisconsin Idea"; express their sorrow at his death; and extend their condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Remington's wife, Susan Stone, and to his children, Michael Remington, James Remington, Thomas Remington, Patrick Remington, Ann Holdahl and Frank Remington.
