1997 Assembly Joint Resolution 127
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Curtis McKay.
Whereas, Curtis McKay was born on October 10, 1926, in Chicago and died on March 23, 1998, in Sheboygan; and
Whereas, he received his undergraduate degree from Grinnell College and a law degree from Northwestern University; and
Whereas, he practiced law in Milwaukee and Chicago; and
Whereas, he was elected to the assembly in 1960 and reelected in 1962, 1964 and 1966; and
Whereas, he served as assistant majority leader for one session and as majority leader for one session; and
Whereas, Mr. McKay was a delegate to 3 Republican National Conventions, served on the State Elections Board, was a member of the Bay Lakes Regional Planning Commission and was the legal counsel for the Management Trustees of the Wisconsin State Laborers' Pension and Employment Fund; and
Whereas, he was the chairman of the board and general counsel of Kohler General Corporation from 1980 until his retirement in 1995; and
Whereas, Mr. McKay was an avid flyer from the age of 14 and owned a twin-engine Cessna aircraft; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute the many years of effective public service that Curtis McKay rendered to the people of this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. McKay's wife, Ruth, and to his children; Thomas McKay, Joan Winters-Nisewander, Janet Haupt and Kimberly Schmidt.
