1997 Assembly Joint Resolution 13
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of William Double.
Whereas, William Double was born on June 12, 1910, in Milwaukee, and died on December 28, 1996, in Mequon; and
Whereas, Mr. Double graduated from Bay View High School in Milwaukee, attended Ripon College and Marquette University and earned a law degree from Marquette University; and
Whereas, after practicing law, he was elected to the assembly in 1938 and served 3 terms; and
Whereas, among Mr. Double's major accomplishments in the assembly were appointment as chair of the Municipalities Committee and primary authorship of the first variable rate mortgage statute in this country; and
Whereas, after leaving the assembly Mr. Double practiced law, served as a lobbyist for the Wisconsin Savings and Loan League, was a director of the St. Francis Bank and was elected the first president of the Milwaukee Exchange Club; and
Whereas, he also served in the Wisconsin National Guard and the Temporary Coast Guard Reserve; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that William Double contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Double's sons, Richard and Dennis, and to his daughter, Deborah.
