1997 Assembly Joint Resolution 49
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Lee E. Grugel.
Whereas, Lee E. Grugel was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 9, 1940, and died in Madison on October 31, 1996; and
Whereas, Mr. Grugel served the state of Wisconsin in several capacities with the University of Wisconsin for many years; and
Whereas, he served for 10 years as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, after spending 12 years as a professor of history at Moorhead State University in Minnesota; and
Whereas, he spent 5 years as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers; and
Whereas, as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers, he supported new ways of learning and fostered cooperation in teaching between the centers and the K-12 schools and the Wisconsin Technical Colleges; and
Whereas, he enjoyed the respect of his colleagues, as they knew of his dedication to learning and his contagious optimism; and
Whereas, Chancellor Grugel continued to build upon the cooperation that goes on between the centers and their communities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin express their gratitude for Lee E. Grugel's service to the University of Wisconsin System and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Grugel's wife, Fran, and to his children, Ann and Chris.
