ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming Native American History Month.
Whereas, among the residents of Wisconsin are members of the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, Stockbridge-Munsee, Menominee, Oneida and Ho-Chunk tribes, as well as individuals of other Native American nations from across the United States; and
Whereas, these Native American tribes have a long and important history; and
Whereas, that history is taught in Wisconsin public schools, and the Department of Public Instruction has created curricular materials to assist the teachers of that subject; and
Whereas, providing accurate historical information about Native Americans to school children increases their understanding of, and respect for, Native Americans; and
Whereas, integration of material on Native American history into the schools' curricula also increases the pride that Native American children have in their rich cultural traditions; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim October "Native American History Month".
