1997 Assembly Resolution 18
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming Chosin Few Day.
Whereas, in June 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea to begin the Korean War, which lasted 3 years and, for the first time, engaged the United Nations in a military conflict, fought by a coalition of 22 countries led by the United States; and
Whereas, the brave men and women who served in that war left a legacy of unselfish courage as they fought to stop the Communist aggression in Korea; and
Whereas, for 10 bitterly cold days of November and December 1950, troops of the 10th Corps of the UN Command clashed in the Chosin Reservoir with Communist China's vast army, which had come to the aid of North Korea, and the ensuing battle cost many Allied lives but protected the American supply route for food, medicine and ammunition; and
Whereas, on May 15, 1998, survivors of that terrible struggle will gather in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, for a reunion of their "eternal band of brothers", the group known as the Chosin Few; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly proclaim May 15, 1998, Chosin Few Day in recognition of the courageous service and sacrifices of those who fought with honor in the Chosin Reservoir.
