1999 Senate Joint Resolution 33
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the retirement of Jane Henkel.
Whereas, Jane Henkel will retire from the Legislative Council Staff on January 31, 2000, after 23 years of service; and
Whereas, her potential for providing high quality service to the legislature was already evident in her performance as a student at the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she served on the law review, was on the Dean's List for 5 semesters, and graduated cum laude; and
Whereas, Jane Henkel began work as a staff attorney for the Legislative Council Staff in November 1976; and
Whereas, her varied interests and abilities are reflected in the breadth of areas of the law she has influenced through her hard work, including school district boundary changes, open enrollment, public libraries, alcohol beverage laws, truancy, and educational communications technology; and
Whereas, she served as legal counsel to the Joint Committee on Employment Relations; and
Whereas, her intelligence and capacity for attention to detail enabled her to edit numerous Legislative Council Staff publications over the years, giving them their well deserved reputation for clarity and accuracy; and
Whereas, Jane Henkel served as a teacher and mentor for many of the attorneys who currently serve the legislature, which will serve as her legacy for years to come; and
Whereas, her interest and talent in computer technology was of great assistance to the Legislative Council Staff and the legislature in adopting new technology; and
Whereas, in recent years Jane Henkel has assumed a leadership role at the Legislative Council Staff, becoming Deputy Director in 1992, and Acting Director in October 1999; now, therefore be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That members of the Wisconsin legislature applaud the career of Jane Henkel, thank her for her contributions, and wish her a happy retirement; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Jane Henkel.
