ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Whereas, child abuse is a problem affecting the entire community, and finding solutions to that problem depends on the involvement of people throughout the community; and
Whereas, approximately 3,000,000 children are reported as having been abused or neglected in this country each year; and
Whereas, the effects of child abuse are felt by whole communities, and the problem of child abuse needs to be addressed by the entire community; and
Whereas, effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among social services agencies, schools, religious and civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and
Whereas, all citizens should become more aware of the negative effects of child abuse and of the means of preventing child abuse, and should become involved in supporting parents in raising their children in a safe, nurturing environment; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature proclaims April as "Child Abuse Prevention Month" in the state of Wisconsin, and calls upon all citizens, community agencies, religious and civic organizations, medical facilities, and businesses to increase their participation in efforts to prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening the communities in which we live.
