2003 Assembly Joint Resolution 62
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending the life of Irvin Favre.
Whereas, Irvin Favre, resident of Kiln, Mississippi, and father of beloved Green Bay Packer quarterback Brett Favre, died suddenly on December 21, 2003, at the young age of 58; and
Whereas, Irvin Favre graduated from Gulfport High School in 1963; and he then played baseball at Southern Miss, lettering in 1966-67; and
Whereas, he married his wife, Bonita, and the couple had 4 children, Jeff, Brett, Scott, and Brandi; and
Whereas, Irvin was an outstanding high school teacher and coach for 28 years; and he coached football and baseball on the Gulf Coast, first at St. John, then at Hancock North Central, where he coached his 3 sons; and
Whereas, he returned to coaching with the Mississippi Fire Dogs, an indoor minor league football team, and led the team to a National Indoor Football League Championship; and
Whereas, he also was the owner of a family restaurant, Favre's on the Bayou; and
Whereas, Irvin was well known for his southern hospitality when curious Packer fans drove down the misspelled "Irvin Farve Road" to his 52-acre home in Kiln, Mississippi, to see the home of their beloved quarterback; and
Whereas, Irvin became an honorary Wisconsin citizen as he followed his son's NFL career closely and considered the Packers' 1997 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in New Orleans among the best events of his life; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commemorate the life and public service of Irvin Favre, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Irvin Favre's wife and children.
