2003 Assembly Joint Resolution 82
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Lawrence W. Timmerman.
Whereas, Lawrence W. Timmerman was born on June 1, 1910, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died on January 8, 2003; and
Whereas, Mr. Timmerman was educated in the Milwaukee parochial grade schools and Marquette University High School; and
Whereas, he earned a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in political science, and, subsequently, an LL.B degree from Marquette University; and
Whereas, he married Regina Disher in 1957, who preceded him in death in June of 2002; and
Whereas, following in the footsteps of his father who served in the 1923 Wisconsin assembly and on the Milwaukee County Board, Mr. Timmerman was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1954, representing Milwaukee-6th, and served in the 1955 session, 1957 session, and part of the 1959 session before resigning to accept an appointment to the Milwaukee County Board to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Timmerman fought for a bill to establish the position of Milwaukee County executive; and
Whereas, upon his appointment to the Milwaukee County Board in 1959, Mr. Timmerman held that position until his retirement in 1980; and
Whereas, during his tenure on the Milwaukee County Board, he served as chairman of the board's Judiciary Committee, repeatedly urging a tougher ethics code regarding junkets and freebies for county supervisors; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Lawrence W. Timmerman contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Timmerman's sister, Frances K. Timmerman.
