2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 97
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: life and public service of Robert M. Berns.
Whereas, Robert M. Berns was born on June 27, 1920, in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, and died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his home, in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, at the age of 85; and
Whereas, Mr. Berns attended local schools and graduated from Gibraltar High School before attending St. Norbert College in De Pere and Marquette University in Milwaukee; and
Whereas, in 1941 Mr. Berns, with his brother Les, established Berns Bros. Lumber Company and managed a sawmill and the sale of ice and coal; and
Whereas, Mr. Berns contributed to the war effort by providing lumber for shipping essential war material for the Allied forces and in 1944 further served his country as a commissioned officer in the United States Army; and
Whereas, the life of Mr. Berns was best exemplified by his tireless dedication to his community and his charitable service, including his service to the Door County Memorial Hospital and Scandia Village assisted living facility, and as president of the Sister Bay Lions Club, president of the Advancement Association, president of the Nor-Door Medical Clinic, and a trustee of St. Rosalia's Parish; and
Whereas, Mr. Berns was a member of the Sister Bay village board, a member of the Sister Bay planning commission, and PTA president of the Gibraltar Area School District; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Robert M. Berns, whose dedication to his family, community, and country will serve as an example of how great a person can be and the positive impact a person can have on others; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Berns's wife, Judy; his brothers Lester Berns, Phillip Berns, and Lewis Berns; and his daughters Pamela Berns, Kathy Johnson, Kerry Rossmeissl, and Kelly Franzmeier.
