2005 Senate Joint Resolution 36
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Raymond Heinzen.
Whereas, Raymond Heinzen was born in Marshfield on May 11, 1918, and died in Arpin on September 12, 2005; and
Whereas, Raymond Heinzen graduated from McKinley High and attended the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture; and
Whereas, upon leaving school to take over the family dairy farm, Raymond Heinzen embarked on a career not only of farming but of civic involvement, serving as clerk of the local school district, a member of the state Board of Vocational, Technical and Adult Education, president of the Marshfield Dairymen's Association, and secretary of the Hub Dairy Cooperative; and
Whereas, his sense of civic involvement led Raymond Heinzen to seek election to the Wisconsin assembly, where he served from the 1961 session through the 1967 session; and
Whereas, he subsequently was elected to the Wisconsin senate, serving in the 1969 and 1971 sessions; and
Whereas, his interest in education was reflected in his service as chairman of the senate education committee; and
Whereas, his authorship of the university merger legislation in 1971 allows us to view the University of Wisconsin System itself as an ongoing monument to his public life; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature salutes the life and public service of Raymond Heinzen and mourns his passing; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to his daughter, Ann Marie Fisher and his son, Paul Ben Heinzen.
