2005 Senate Joint Resolution 39
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Sergeant Andrew L. Bossert.
Whereas, Sergeant Andrew L. "Andy" Bossert was born on October 1, 1980, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, and died on March 7, 2005, at a military checkpoint near Ramadi, Iraq, while serving with Pfc. Michael W. Franklin, of Coudersport, Pennsylvania, when a driver detonated his vehicle claiming the lives of both soldiers; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert served with honor as a member of C Company, 44th Engineers Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, based at Camp Howze, Korea, where he served more than 2 years before being deployed to Iraq in late August, 2004, as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert graduated from Fountain City High School in 1999, and spent the following semester at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, before joining the Army; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert was to study architecture upon the conclusion of his service, planning to someday build a home for his wife, Olya; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being in the company of his friends and family; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert's 5 years in the United States Army were served with distinction and pride, and, although he recognized the dangerous duties his job presented, he loved being a soldier and he loved his country; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert believed in the worthy cause of bringing freedom to the Iraqi people, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bossert will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, his courage, and his exemplary service as a soldier in the United States Army; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor Sergeant Andrew L. "Andy" Bossert for his noble service to our country and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Sergeant Bossert's parents, Steven and Diane Bossert, to his brother, Timothy Bossert, to his sister, Amy Bossert, and to his wife, Olya Bossert.
