ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life of Army Sergeant Andrew Wallace.
Whereas, Army Sergeant (SGT) Andrew Wallace was born on May 26, 1980, in West Union, Iowa, and died on Monday, September 26, 2005, in Shaibah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during convoy operations; and the HMMWV was also attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace graduated from Ripon High School in 1998; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace was a physical education teacher at Emmeline Cook Elementary School in Oshkosh and a WIAA sports official for softball, baseball, and football; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace was an adaptive physical education teacher and an assistant wrestling coach at Oshkosh North High School; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard deployed with the Charlie Company 2nd Battalion 127th Infantry; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace married his wife, Angie Hill, on July 10, 2004, in Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace was a devoted husband, son, brother, teacher, friend, and soldier; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace made a tremendous positive influence on those who knew him and was wise beyond his 25 years; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace was posthumously awarded the Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while working towards freedom for the people of Iraq; and
Whereas, SGT Wallace will always be remembered for his loyalty and duty for the Army, for the cause of freedom, and for his love and devotion for his family and friends, and he will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Army Sergeant Andrew Wallace of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to SGT Wallace's wife, Angela Wallace of Oshkosh; his mother and stepfather, Janie and Joel Brockman of Ripon; his father and stepmother, Peter and Sue Wallace of Fox Lake; mother and father in-law, Mike and Karen Hill of Wales; grandparents, Vern Keune, Les and Betty Wallace, Greg and Pat Hertel, John and Cheryl Hill, and Shirley and Bo Vanman; and his great-grandparents, Cecelia and Erv Krolikowski.
