2013 Senate Joint Resolution 12
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending the Samoset Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Whereas, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young men to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by teaching the values of the Scout Oath and Law; and
Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is the most proven and successful youth program in America; and
Whereas, the Samoset Council of the Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1920 and currently serves over 6,300 young men in north-central Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the Samoset Council provides camping programs, youth and adult training opportunities, and the nation's first combined facility for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Wausau Homes Scout Center, made possible by the generosity of Marv and Ruth Schuette on behalf of the builders and employees of Wausau Homes; and
Whereas, the Wausau Homes Scout Center provides the necessary resources and information to the Scout family of chartered partners and their leaders, including volunteer training, advancement records, registration processing, badges of rank, reservations for use of programs and facilities, and personal leadership from trained staff; and
Whereas, of the 296 Scout Councils nationwide, the Samoset Council, based in Wausau, was ranked number one, scoring very high in the national Journey to Excellence point system, which takes into account member retention, community service, the percentage of Boy Scouts advancing to new levels, and fundraising; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin recognizes and salutes the Samoset Council on its remarkable achievement; and be it further
Resolved, That the chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to the Samoset Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Wausau Homes, and the Schuette family.
