2015 Assembly Joint Resolution 76
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming October 26 to 30, 2015, as Canada Week in Wisconsin, and Tuesday, October 27, 2015, as Canada Day at the state capitol.
Whereas, the United States and Canada share not only a 5,522-mile border, which is the world's longest border, but also a vibrant history of democratic governance, military and economic partnerships, and cultural ties; and
Whereas, relations between Canada and the United States span more than two centuries, and the two nations have developed one of the most successful international relationships in the modern world; and
Whereas, the relationship between Canada and the United States is unique in the world, and the two nations have a shared prosperity fostered by two-way investments and jobs; and
Whereas, Canada and the United States have the largest and most comprehensive trade relationship in the world; and
Whereas, Canada and the great state of Wisconsin as well share a rich and vibrant history of democratic governance, security and economic partnerships, and tourism and cultural ties; and
Whereas, Canada is the largest trade partner of the United States and Wisconsin and the number of Canadian tourists visiting this country, and Wisconsin, exceeds the number from any other country; and
Whereas, 158,000 jobs in Wisconsin depend on Canada-U.S. trade and investment; and
Whereas, total Canada-Wisconsin trade in goods last year was $12.4 billion; and
Whereas, Wisconsin sells more goods to Canada than to its next six foreign markets combined; and
Whereas, as many as 320,700 Canadian visitors to Wisconsin annually contribute $65 million dollars to the Wisconsin economy; and
Whereas, Wisconsin exported $525 million in paper and paperboard to Canada and imported $443 million in plastics & plastic articles; and
Whereas, Wisconsin, Canada, and the Canadian provinces share common leading industries which are vital to the economies and people of our respective nations, including agriculture and energy development; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature hereby proclaims October 26 to 30, 2015, as Canada Week in Wisconsin, and Tuesday, October 27, 2015, as Canada Day at the state capitol; and, be it further
Resolved, That the legislature honors our friend and ally, Canada, and looks forward to many more years of cooperation, friendship, trade, tourism, and good will; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall present a copy of this resolution to the consulate general of Canada.
